16th campaign day the political party Movement of Justice was in front of the Old Oak near the former destroyed “Picin” Park. 8 years ago, as an activist, Sofija Grmuša, together with other citizens, fought to preserve a large green area in the former “Picin” Park. Protest rallies “For Picin Park” had no effect, there is almost no greenery there today. Banja Luka used to be a city of greenery. Today, unfortunately, it is not.
Today, our city has twice as less green space compared to the European standard. To reach that standard, we need 98 new hectares of landscaped public green spaces. The formation of greenery in the new blocks of buildings does not exist.
Only the interest of investors is taken into account, and not the interests of citizens and the environment. Parks are a painful point for us. The only real park in the city is “Mladen Stojanović” Park. Unfortunately, “Petar Kočić” Park today has more concrete than greenery. “Kupusište” park is the only one that was established after the earthquake and is small in size. The territory of the city of Banja Luka has several hundred streets, and tree lines exist in less than 80 streets, which is devastating. The coast of “Vrbas” River, as a green area, should be fully affirmed, as well as its use as a landscaped public space.
