Today and tomorrow, we are collecting signatures in support of our initiative to propose lawyer Ifet Feraget for the highest city recognition – HONORARY CITIZEN OF THE CITY OF BANJA LUKA.
On Friday, we formally submit the initiative to the Assembly of the City of Banja Luka.
The informal group of citizens “Justice for David” and the citizens’ association “Path of Justice” will send a proposal to the Assembly of the City of Banja Luka to award this year’s highest city award for work and work of general importance the Key of the City of Banja Luka with the charter “Honorary Citizen of Banja Luka” to lawyer Ifet Feraget.
Lawyer Ifet Feraget was born in 1962 in Banja Luka, where he finished elementary school, high school, and after that the Faculty of Law as one of the best students. After studying, he started working as a lawyer in Banja Luka.
At the beginning of the war in BiH, he went to Germany, and since 1998 he has lived and worked in Sarajevo.
Mr. Feraget is widely known to the BiH public, but also much wider, because for years, pro bono, he has represented two families whose tragic fates have come to the attention of even the world public. It is about the murders of two young men – Dženan Memić from Sarajevo and David Dragičević from Banja Luka. Those two covert murders have become a symbol of institutional corruption and crime in BiH’s judiciary.
Mr. Feraget is one of the few lawyers who said publicly, clearly and loudly that in the BiH judiciary, unfortunately for all of us, there are criminals who have the task of covering up some of the most serious crimes, such as murder.
Ifet Feraget, with his dedicated work and commitment, has become one of the symbols of perseverance, persistence, dedication and courage in the fight against the abuse of the rule of law and its institutions.
The justice sought for David and Jennan is not just justice for the two young men killed. It implies justice for all of us. Ifet Feraget often points out that resolving these two cases will not require any judicial reform in BiH.
Due to all the above, the contribution of Ifet Feraget to the fight for the rule of law is immeasurable and extremely valuable.
Last year, in 2021, Mr. Sarajevo Canton awarded the Plaque for Outstanding Contribution to Bosnia and Herzegovina. society in the field of justice, for the expressed responsibility and selfless commitment in the fight for truth and justice, and the preservation of legal and moral principles. The explanation states that Feraget is one of the symbols of a difficult but sincere struggle and his contribution to the civil community is great and has been confirmed by public opinion.
We invite citizens to sign our online petition and thus support our initiative to award Mr. Ifet Ferget the Key of the City of Banja Luka with the charter “Honorary Citizen of the City of Banja Luka” for 2022.
